Chronicle – The history of METTNAU

More than 60 years of experience...

...in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease in METTNAU provide the foundation for our excellent reputation.

The cornerstone of the health resort’s long-term success was laid over 55 years ago. Back in 1958, Hermann Albrecht, founder of Mettnau Spa and mayor of the town at the time, realized that the nature reserve on the edge of the idyllic town of Radolfzell must not be built on or developed. He knew that it must be preserved as a place for regeneration. He met up with Prof. Walker from Freiburg, who had the idea of establishing a health clinic with a focus on movement on the shores of Lake Constance.
Will Stadel, an Olympic champion, trained enthusiastically with the spa guests on the lakeshore.

Sports physician Prof. Dr. Adolf Drews took over management of the clinic in 1965. He developed a form of therapy in METTNAU that views the body, mind and soul as a responsive entity and puts the focus on the human being as a whole. In the same year, METTNAU treated the first heart attack patients. Cardio logical rehabilitation was introduced as an additional form of prevention.

Over the last 60 years, METTNAU has faced numerous new challenges:
Just a few days after their surgery, cardiology patients can now come for follow-up treatment to Werner-Messmer-Klinik, where they are supervised by a team of specialised physicians.

We place great value on prevention, because true to our motto "Movement is Life", our aim is to support you so that things never get that far.
